He wasted $850 trying to save $8
I was just chatting on the phone with my brother and he told me about his unemployed friend.
This guy hasn’t had a job for over a year, and went backpacking through Europe.
He’s back in Canada now, and apparently made an $850 drone from scratch.
No kits or nothing.
Dude’s a bit of a genius.
But he was so cheap (cuz he has no savings) - he didn’t want to spend $8 on a GPS tracking device.
So he was using his VR headset to drive the drone around and obviously, because he’s got the VR headset on, he actually doesn’t know where it is.
So when the drone bugged out, he couldn’t find it.
And lost $850 because of he wanted to be cheap and cut corners.
There’s a lot of lessons from this story.
The big one for me is when paying for a solution, pay for the one that doesn’t cut corners.
Most people try to hire the cheapest consultant.
Or the cheapest agency or service provider.
Then they end up crying about the fact they lost a bunch of money or it doesn’t work out as promised because they went with someone half as cheap.
Yea, it’s going to be more expensive.
But it’s going to be cheaper than getting no results or bad results.
So think about that next time you’re going to make an investment with someone or something.
